Emmanuel Sanders leaves Jacksonville without a contract

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

The Jaguars reportedly met with free agent WR Emmanuel Sanders Wednesday, but Sanders is heading to Tampa Bay to talk terms on a contract.

Whether it's good or bad a free agent leaves a meeting with a team without a contract, that's what Emmanuel Sanders did Wednesday.

He headed out of Jacksonville, south down to Tampa, to meet with the cash-rich Buccaneers.

The Bucs, under new coach Lovie Smith, had a bunch of cap space heading into free agency and with the release of cornerback Darrelle Revis Wednesday, have even more of it now.

Not that they'd need to break the bank to sign Sanders, who will probably fetch roughly what Golden Tate received from Detroit (5-year, $31 million, $13.25 million guaranteed). Sanders is a solid receiving option, and probably best parlayed with a main targeted receiver, like Tampa Bay's Vincent Jackson.

The Bucs also have Mike Williams under contract, and won't be releasing him. Williams is facing trespassing and criminal mischief charges stemming from an incident with an ex-girlfriend, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

Williams tore a hamstring in Week 8 of 2013, and only played in six Buccaneers' games. His lack of reliability (including multiple missed meetings, according to sources) would make a free agent No. 2 option in their passing game more appealing in the long term.

The Bucs also recently signed quarterback Josh McCown, and Smith has already proclaimed him as their starter, ahead of second-year QB Mike Glennon.
