Steelers sign ex-Bears P Adam Podlesh to 1-year contract

Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE

Podlesh was a fourth-round selection by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2007, the first punter taken that year. The Steelers traded up to draft the second, Dan Sepulveda.

One of the more infamous draft day moves in recent Steelers memory was in 2007, when they dealt a pick to move up in the fourth round, selecting Baylor's Daniel Sepulveda.

He was the second-highest rated punter on the board that year. Part of the reason the Steelers felt the need to move up to get him was because the Jaguars selected the top-ranked punter, Maryland's Adam Podlesh, with the 102nd overall pick.

Sepulveda is long gone, and as of Tuesday, Podlesh is the newest Steelers player.

The Steelers signed Podlesh to a 1-year deal with the team, and will compete with Brad Wing for the team's punting duties heading into training camp.

The Steelers have now signed 12 players this offseason, and the last one may be to address the team's most shallow position. Pittsburgh has run through several punters the last few years, including two last season, none of whom have done enough to earn much of a long-term deal with the club. Podlesh, and his 37-yard net average with Chicago in 2013, doesn't appear to be favored to change that trend.
