So I just recently found this page, was on ESPN for long time this is way better.
So i have been reading a ton of posts and doing my own research, this is what I came up with it let me know what yinz think. When the Steelers were great 93-11, they had a great front 7 on D and at least2/3probowl players on the OL. The icing on the cake and what lead to 3 trips and 2 rings was Ben falling to us. But they key to those teams was building 75% through the draft, and making smart and great moves in FA and trades. In recent history Clark,Farrior and the Bus played huge roles on the team. The Steelers also spent a lot high picks on both lines, then when that was settled hit huge home runs on Miller, Troy and Ben. So my point is in recent years they again have spent a lot of high picks on the lines and we we have some building blocks. Heyward, DeCastro and Gilbert I am leaving pouncey off the list bc i dont think he will be on the team next year, i would trade him for a 3rd round pick and Velsaco can hold it down for a few years at a fraction of the cost. I also dont think the Steelers are in a position to spend a #1 pick on a TE or S, next year yes. I think they need to land 2 first year starters and next year another 2 players ready to start or play big role.
In round 1I dont think they draft a LT,they let Beachum play and earn the starting spot. If Sammy Watkins falls to 15 they take him (i think sanders walks, but they keep Cothery). Another player that should be there is CJ Mosley, this guy like Jones last yr already plays in a 3-4, so it should be an easier transition to the NFL. Mosley reminds me of Farrior&Vilma combination, very smart, fast and hard hitter. Final players in round one would be Nix or Tuitt from Notre Dame. The deisel may be gone, and even if they keep him it would only be for a year we another player on the DL. Nix could start day 1 and they could kick Mclendon the end. The wild card is what they do w Hood, if they think he is starter then they probably wont pick a DL in round 1.
Round 2, this pick could be spent on a plethora (my favorite word in the english language) of players and positions. If Sanders walks do they trust Weaton or Moye to be the #2 WR. I personally think wheaton will be a great slot WR and catch a lot of deep balls, and Moye is a good 4th WR. Cothery is a good WR in spots but isnt a starter long term bc of his age. They could draft Benjamin from FSU, Beckam from LSU or Robinson from PSU, all 3 could see a lot of snaps year 1 and could start in year 2.
Round 3, if we trade Pouncey we have that pick, and we should get 2 comp picks in this round for Wallace annd Lewis. So total of 3 picks here they are. Trey Mason RB Aurburn, not trying to replace Bell(great pick and 6 year Bell cow RB) but Mason is much better than Larod S. Howling & Dwyer now and is a special, special team player. Also F. Jones is a FA he didnt get a ton of offers last yr dont see that changing, but I would keep him for at least 2/3 more years. Pick 3b. D,S or CB the Steelers need depth and future starters in both positions, plus this player should be to contribute on special teams. 3c OL or DL, we need depth and championships are still won w great line play.
Rounds 4-7 best player on the Steelers board, try and find the next A. Brown or James Harrison!
