Ok, to start off, that was probably a bit of an overstatement, but the numbers are there. A running back in the FCS had over 2500 yards rushing and 42 rushing touchdowns this year which is more TDs than Barry's crazy 88' campaign but 128 yards shy of his yardage. His name is Terrance West and he plays for Towson University, a smaller college in Maryland. I probably wouldn't have heard of him except that I live in the area and several of my friends went to that school.
West hasn't committed to the NFL yet because he's a junior, but he's 23 years old so he might declare because he'd be expected to have a shorter career. He is an absolute beast on the field, and because he was in FCS instead of FBS he might be somewhat overlooked by other teams. His team lost the national FCS championship last weekend, but he had another usual game for himself, 99 yards rushing, 39 receiving, and a TD, against one of the best rush defenses in the FCS.
One play that stands out in particular made the whole bar laugh at the opposing team. West received the hand off and ran around the edge, a safety had him dead to rights and West juked left, then right and the safety completely fell over. He doesn't have the best speed or mechanics right now, but he is able to make plays and I think we should give him a shot. I'm not sure where he stacks up as far as which round he would be drafted in, if he even declares, but I think as a later round pick he could be a steal.
Bell looks like he will be a great player and could get better and better, but it never hurts to have a quality backup - see Dwyer, Felix, LRSH, etc. especially if we can grab him late because he's from the FCS.
