Can you believe the talking bobble-heads on television are saying this about Seattle after their performance in the Super Bowl?
Surely no true blue Steelers fan would say that, everyone remembers the Steel Curtain right? Practically every one of those guys are in the Hall of Fame, they were that good. How many HOFers do you see on this Seattle squad? I don't see many. The Steel Curtain was filled with players who are considered among the best at their position to ever play the game, true greats, do you see many of those type of players on the Seahawks? I don't.
What Seattle has done has put together the best defense in the NFL at the moment, and they did it very intelligently and showed great scouting and coaching with their collection of middle rounders to pro bowlers. Standing applause to Pete Carroll, job very well done. But we shouldn't overrate what this year's #1 Defense did in helping out a typical Peyton Manning, playoff letdown, he is not called the GRSQBOAT for nothing.
Did anybody think The Legion of Boom was one of the greatest defenses ever before this blowout? Don't you think San Francisco's defense this year is just about as good? I would take San Francisco's two ILB's over Seattle's 3 best DB's. With that said, I will rank the Seattle's defensive effort in the Super Bowl performance as one of the best ever. And I give them standing applause, they were awesome, much respect for what they have accomplished. Over-achievers the lot of them.
What I won't do is rank them among the greatest defenses ever, not only is not true right now, but doubt they stay together long enough to have the longevity that a GOAT has to have on its resume.
The Steel Curtain of the 1970's is the greatest defense of all time, compared to them, the Legion of Boom is more like a flash in the pan.
