Optimistic Mock Draft

Ohhh I do love me some mock drafts.....must be the madden franchise mode fan in me.....some of my picks are optimistic about them still being on the board when we pick I know that already no need to remind me of it BUT they are not far fetched probabilities and if we all join hands and chant I have no doubt they can happen....so here we go....

  1. Mike Evans, WR Texas A&M......we've all gone over this guy on this site enough that I'm not going into his strengths and weaknesses or how much Ben would love this pick......what I am going to do is say that with Golden Tate now a Lion this pick hinges on the Rams taking Watkins and an OT at 13....if they do that Evans will be there for the taking.....I also believe a WR like this takes our O into a new realm.......Ideal pick: Justin Gilbert...(sorry but Lions take him at 10)
  2. Ryan Shazier, LB Ohio State.....Probably the most optimistic reach of my mock but I see his draft value similar to Arthur Brown last year which leads me to believe he JUST MIGHT be there....very Timmons-esque in terms of size and speed...maybe even faster which is VERY exciting!!! Would form a super athletic 3 down duo at ILB for us for years to come....also achieves the "get faster" agenda for the D......Ideal pick : heh well Ryan Shazier but if he's not there I'd be excited if Hageman was
  3. (comp) Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB Nebraska....6'2 1/2" with a 41" vertical.....that's a guy with a large "anti-catch radius"....a bit slower than I'd like at 4.61 but very few of the 6'3"+ WRs run much faster so I think it's a wash.....a bit stiff on the hip flip per scouting reports and Neal but with the whole (stupid IMO) "tackle the catch" thing they like to use I don't know if it's that big of a weakness....plus I think that's something that can be refined with coaching....this pick seems fit into the drafting tall CBs in the mid rounds procedure
  4. Jackson Jeffcoat, DE/OLB Texas.....6'5" 250 lbs has great handfighting and is relentless...lacks ideal athleticism and explosion and from what I read most of his weaknesses stem from lacking lower body strength which is a very fixable issue.....good potential and fills a need for depth.....have seen him mocked in this range and higher but like I said..."optimistic"
  5. Brent Urban DE Virginia....6'7" 295lbs....huge guy who hasn't refined his craft or reached his potential....a lot of upside at low cost...not an immediate contributor but could be a solid starter in a few year until then he's promising depth
  6. 5 (comp) Dontae Johnson, CB NC State.....6'2" 200 lbs...4.45 40... Was a Linebacker in 2011 (played 8 games) finishing with 58 tackles....moved to CB in 2012 and had 8 pass break ups 2 picks 2 sacks and a FF.....last year he finished with 82 tackles and 3 picks...played well at the Senior Bowl showing solid man coverage skills..has progressed each season....seems like the raw type of lengthy CB the Steelers love taking in this range....great project for Lake and may ease the passing of Ike next year.....umm not passing hes not going to die I mean retiring....
  7. 6th Deandre Coleman, DL Caliornia.....6'5" 315 lbs.....tall enough to be a DE....heavy enough to be a NT.....seems to have a ton of unreached potential and hopefull some time around pros and with Coach Mitchell could help him develop into a solid "swing DL" like Woods was.....
  8. 7th Mike Tomlin, William & Mary...punt/kickoff coverage specialist.....known for making TD saving tackles effortlessly....MAY NOT be there in the 7th andif he's not I think we take the best OT prospect......

I didn't take a RB cause I have a feeling we'll sign 1 soon and probably 2 after Woodley's June 1st cap hit goes away....double dipped at CB and DL for obvious reasons.....this is only my 2nd post ( a mock last year ) and I don't know how to break paragraphs APPARENTLY soooo hate it love it rec it wreck it but there it is in all it's unformatted glory.......
