Steelers at Buccaneers from 1989

J. Meric

A different time, a different era...watching a game from 1989 is entertaining and sad, at the same time.

These are always super fun to watch, and not just for a dip back into a completely different style of football (they actually run the ball as a primary gameplan), but from a cultural perspective as well. Look how small the stadium is, look how big their pads are. The NFL has changed considerably since this Sunday afternoon in 1989, but you can see the evolution of the game within each snap.

Here are links to the rosters of the Steelers and the Buccaneers from that game. the Buccaneers were really bad...they surrendered 419 points that season and 5,400 yards off offense.

The Steelers won five out of their last six games, including this one, to clinch the final wild card spot in the AFC.

Notice the commercials, and the broadcasters as well, if you really want a trip down memory lane. Broadcasters were far about their own brands and more about the game itself...and it's not even clear if it's better.

Give it a watch, it's worth your time.
