Jerricho Cotchery reportedly signed a 5-year deal worth $3.5 million in 2014 with the Carolina Panthers Wednesday, becoming the second Steelers receiver this offseason to head for richer pastures. The reaction on Twitter was probably in line with what we might have reasonably expected.
Here's a way to blame Mike Tomlin, which some will certainly do.
Jerricho Cotchery's agent, Brian Levy, also Mike Tomlin's agent.— Ed Bouchette (@EdBouchette) March 20, 2014
Wow, a Laveranues Coles reference...that takes talent.
Oooh, Jerricho Cotchery. Was Laveranues Coles unavailable, #Panthers?— Michael Tanier (@MikeTanier) March 20, 2014
This sounds oddly like the stories Graves and others (probably us) wrote about Ben Roethlisberger and the new faces in the quarterbacks room. Maybe some change will be good for Brown. For the first time, he's the oldest receiver there. For now, at least.
Loss of @cotcheryfoundat to CAR will hurt as much in meeting room as the field. AB will be looking around going "who are these dudes?"— Will Graves (@WillGravesAP) March 20, 2014
Tough break for the #Steelers losing Jerricho Cotchery - wonder if Lance Moore is serious about being with the black and gold— Pittsburgh Steelers (@SteelersGab) March 20, 2014
It's getting harder and harder to ignore the sentiment posed by former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch earlier this offseason when he wondered indirectly if Todd Haley may have something to do with the amount of offensive turnover the team has had.
Maybe Steelers offensive players and coaches are leaving because of Todd Haley.— Colin Dunlap (@colin_dunlap) March 20, 2014
Cotchery's wife is from North Carolina and has family in the area. Said that was major part of his decision #Steleers— Dale Lolley (@dlolleyor) March 20, 2014
Whatever the reason...it's onward and upward. Who's next?
