Readers Correspondence: What would the Steelers do with a second pick in the top 15?

It's a borderline absurd fantasy, but a fun discussion one reader wanted to bring up anyway.

love behind the steel curtain! read it every day.

how bout a real splash in this years draft? trade your #1 and #3 next year to advance into the top 14 this year and take both evans and dennard. round two take the receiver from ole miss or vandy or best tight end available. now you have something to talk about.

Thanks man, I appreciate the support!

To be honest, I think it'd be damn near impossible to get a second top 15 pick in this draft. they'd probably have to give next year's first to get back into the second this year. It's a super deep draft.

If they did though...hmmm...Interesting.

If the Steelers walked out of the Thursday Night NFL Freak Show May 8 with, say, Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert (won't happen) and Florida State wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin, the reaction around Steeler Nation would be nuclear, to describe it mildly.

It brings up an absurd string of possibilities of combinations of players, one that could only bring pain and anguish, but it is fun to consider anyway. It'd cost the Steelers' first and third next year just to move back into the late first round, I would imagine (cue for all draftniks to break out their Trade Value charts). Giving up that much without losing anything more in this draft would likely make general manager Kevin Colbert the Executive of the Year.

That said, they'd likely have to take at least one player in that duo that's able to get on the field rather quickly. I don't see that being Gilbert, but perhaps you're onto something with Dennard. You also mentioned Jordan Matthews over Benjamin.

It's funny how many different combinations could be created in this scenario, yet, we'd still be arguing the same thing; who's the best player to take in the first round?
