I just used "on the clock" simulator game and came up with my favorite mock draft to date. Using the Walter Football Big Board I came up with the following draft.
15 CB Justin Gilbert, Oklahoma State----- This was a toss up for me with Mike Evans still available also, but in the end I decided to go with the playmaking corner that the defense has been missing for a long time.
46 WR Jordan Matthews, Vanderbilt------ My decision in the first don't look so bad now when I grab my favorite receiver not named Watkins. I mean come on this kid is related to the great one, Jerry Rice, and if he has half of his work ethic he will succeed.
97 OLB Jackson Jeffcoat, Texas------This is another good football pedigree that I feel could become a good to great OLB with the proper coaching.
118 DE Brent Urban, Virginia------ Has good initial quickness and was originally recruited to play DE in the 3-4. Would make a good complement opposite Heyward.
157 DT Justin Ellis, Louisiana Tech----- Could be a possible 3 down NT as he shows good upfield penetration and has the size to become a run stuffer.
173 RB De'Anthony Thomas, Oregon----- The Kick/Punt Returner we need plus could be a very dangerous offensive weapon used properly.
192 WR Devin Street, Pittsburgh----- A tall receiver with good hands who is also already familiar to the Pittsburgh area, was a steal at this point in the draft in my opinion.
215 CB Aaron Colvin, Oklahoma----- Will have to redshirt his first year, but could become an absolute steal after rehabbing from his injury and if not the team don't lose much in the gamble.
230 OLB Shaquil Barrett, Colorado State----- I wanted a OLB prospect here and there were several to choose from but I feel that new coach Joey Porter may push in this direction due to his familiarity with the player.
There you have it this is my shot at playing GM and I actually am pretty happy with the way things worked out as I addressed a lot of team needs without reaching in any round (with maybe an exception on Barrett). The players were all picked from the top 5 available at the time each was chosen excluding QBs.
