We all know the Steelers aren't going to be signing top tier free agents...
A - We don't have the money available
B- It's just not their style
But there could be a few hidden gems in the second and third tiers out there and here's my list at 5 I think we should be interested in
1: B.J. Raji, NT, Green Bay: We all saw first hand in the Super Bowl that Raji is a beast. For whatever reason he has kind of cooled of in the past couple seasons. Last year he was rotating between DE and NT. Great versatility, he is a large man, and a nose tackle type who doesn't have to come off the field in passing situations because he's actually a very good pass rusher. 3 Down 3-4 Tackles are hard to come by. I'm not saying we should break the bank for him, but if he makes it through the 1st couple days of free agency, why not make a lowball offer.
2: Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Detroit: Former 1st rounder who we see now was a reach, as he's a better run blocker than pass catcher, but he still managed to catch 83 passes in Detroits pass heavy offense in 2011. With the NFL moving toward Oversized WR's at the TE position, there probably wont be a huge demand for a player like Pettigrew.
3: Malcolm Jenkins, FS, New Orleans: Another former 1st rounder who kind of lost his way. Fell out of a starting role with the Saints after them drafting Kenny Vacarro. Would be a centerfielder type to replace Ryan Clark. Good Ball Hawk safety as he was a converted Cornerback. Him and Shamarko could be the future at Safety.
4: Arthur Jones, DE, Baltimore: I've always liked Jones even though hes a Raven. Not a big name, but he plays big. I wouldn't be suprised if he got big money offers and became to expensive for us but you never know.
5: Pat McAfee, P, Indianapolis: Big leg punter who also handles Kickoffs. We've been stuck with awful punters the last few years and its time to solidify the position.
Obviously I'm not saying we should sign all of these guys, but 1 or maybe 2 if the money's right would be great additions.
