Future success depends on lessons learned from the past. With that in mind, what did the 94,95,97,2001,2004,2007 and even 2010 playoffs have in common? Besides what every die-hard Steeler fan is thinking, "we should have 7 more superbowls!" Those years were marked by great defenses, and an offense that did almost everything to loose those games, and did. The bottom line is this, defense wins championships. What happened in the 2005 divisional playoff game? Despite the refs, and Bettis trying to give away the game in the final seconds... the defense gave the offense every chance to win, and the offense didn't quite screw it up.
There really hasn't been a great offensive team since the Rams to win a Superbowl, and we all saw what happened to Denver this year. I believe that the front office has finally stopped drinking the "passing league" kook-aid. There might be a trade down scenario. Also, could totally see them going defense picks 1-5. Regardless they will return to real Steeler football this season (aka: run the ball, stop the run). Or, at least that is the hope.
So please Steeler faithful, forget about 6'4" receivers, we have enough talent on the offensive end to make it work. They just need not choke. Instead, pray for the next, Farrior, Smith, Hampton, Porter, Lloyd, Kirkland, Lake, Taylor or Polamalu.
