The Steelers and Ravens both upgraded their LB corps this season and both selected inside linebackers in the 1st round just 2 picks apart. Darryl Smith quietly had a great year, but he is 32 and won't be around forever. In the Steelers case they slipped in run defense dropping from 2nd in 2012 to 21st in 2013.
After seeing Baltimore choose CJ Mosley out of Alabama, I immediately thought could this could become a great battle to watch over the next decade like Reed and Polmalu. Both Troy and Ed are on the back ends if their hall of fame careers and in Reeds case, he is not in the league as of May 15th 2014. There was always a debate as to who was better and there really was no clear cut favorite. Both were DPOY and perennial pro bowl and all pro players and in my honest opinion, they were both equally as great. They were once in a generation safeties who changed the way the safety postion was played.
Can Ryan Shazier and CJ Mosley create the next debate of who the best linebacker is? I sure hope so because I would love to see a dominant defender on our team once again for various reasons. This would add more fuel to the fire that is Pittsbugh Baltimore rivalry
