CBS and NFL Network announced earlier this off-season that they would both broadcast Thursday night games this season; games during weeks 2-8 and 16 (Saturday game) will be on CBS and games during weeks 9-12 and 14-16 will be on NFL Network.
Executives of the two networks had said that the pregame show for those broadcasts would include a mix of talent from both CBS and the league's network. Ricahrd Deitsch from Sports Illustrated is reporting that the team on the pregame show will consist of James Brown, Deion Sanders and former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher.
SI.com has learned that James Brown, Bill Cowher and Deion Sanders will form the main set group that will appear on CBS and the NFL Network from 7:30 p.m. leading up to the kickoff of Thursday Night Football this season.
Both CBS and NFL Network spokespeople declined to comment Friday when contacted about the Thursday Night pregame staffing.
The Steelers have just one Thursday night game on their schedule this year, week two against the Baltimore Ravens. That game will be the first Thursday night game CBS will broadcast this season, and the first pregame show for the Brown-Sanders-Cowher combo.
Cowher has been great in the studio, and has worked a few games in the past as a in-game analyst. I asked Deitsch via Twitter what he thought of Cowher's performance:
@primetimeMitch I think he's improved as a studio analyst every year.— Richard Deitsch (@richarddeitsch) May 9, 2014
@primetimeMitch Have not heard him as a game analyst enough to make a call.— Richard Deitsch (@richarddeitsch) May 9, 2014
In my opinion, Cowher is one of the best pre/post game show analysts in the business and it looks like he'll be staying in the studio for at least this season. With the veteran Brown as the host and the always entertaining Sanders alongside him, the trio should make for a very enjoyable pregame show on Thursday nights.
