Salary Cap Relief

There have been a lot of people saying that the Steelers cap situation is tight. I will show you how the Steelers tight cap situation can turn into some much needed space. This offseason will have big ramifications on the next four years. Those four years could be our last shot to win a super bowl until we find another franchise qb.

The Steelers are currently at $136,084,235. Lets just make that easier and make it 136 million. First off we will have 500k coming over from last seasons cap to make it 135.5 million. Next Polamalu (8.25m) and Keisel (1.75m) will retire to free up 10 million combined and make the cap number 125.5 million. Lance Moore and Cam Thomas have been disappointments and should go. Cutting Lance Moore would open up 1.5 million and Cam Thomas would open up 2 million. Now the new cap situation is 122 million. That is it for salary cap savings unless Ben or Cam Heyward's contract would create space. I would sign both Mccain and Blake to deals around 1.75 m each that would move the cap back up to 125.5 m. Then you have to sign the bench players, the Matt Spaeths or Robert Goldens of the world. We will add 6 m to add up for all of the bench players. That would move the cap to 131.5 million.

I believe that if the Steelers make the right moves they should be around 131.5 million in cap space. There are ways though to make more cap space. You could restructure contracts or get it from Ben or Heywards contract extensions. In the end, the Steelers will have no excuses for not getting better through the offseason. The salary cap is supposed to be around 143 million. That means that they will be around 12 million in cap space to bring back Worilds and could find another player in free agency. Or they could use it all on free agency on some much needed difference makers. The difference between Ben getting another super bowl or not could definitely be from the results of this offseason.
