Steelers Contracts and Salary Cap

What in the Worilds are the Steelers to do?

The more Jason Worilds continues to look like a starting NFL linebacker on the left side of the Steelers defense, the more LaMarr Woodley develops a striking resemblance to Willie Colon.

Worilds contract situation is similar to Lewis's

Worilds is a free agent this offseason, and his play of late will no doubt up his price tag a bit. He will attract other suitors, and his situation likely won't be much different than it was for former Steelers cornerback Keenan Lewis.

Ben open to 'whatever it takes' to help team

If Ben Roethlisberger will do "whatever it takes" to help the team in his upcoming contract extension negotiations, it's possible he takes a few less dollars, or, the proverbial hometown discount.

Cap decisions loom at season's halfway point

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is both able-bodied and high-priced. With additional help brought in this offseason, the Steelers look to face difficult cap-related questions this offseason. Some players have just half a season to prove their worth.

Taylor's restructure is a positive move

While the Steelers have been making roster moves they have inched closer to the $123 million salary cap total. They're keeping Taylor in place for the future and creating a strong core at the cornerback position.

Levi Brown will make veteran minimum in 2013

Brown will not create cap ramifications for the Steelers in 2013.

Steelers need to clear $2 million in cap space

The trade for Levi Brown will bring more difficult financial decisions for the Steelers - who will reportedly need to free up approximately $2 million for this trade to be completed.

Colbert: No contracts being negotiated

Ziggy Hood and Emmanuel Sanders will play the 2013 season without deals in place afterward. It's expected, and, if no deal is made - the Steelers do not typically negotiate contracts into the regular season - they could leave via free agency in 2014.

Time out called on Steelers’ TV revenue windfall

Taking a page out of the Steelers' contract restructuring playbook, the NFLPA may have already spent in 2012 whatever windfall the new television contract may bring to the players and the salary cap in 2014 and beyond.

Questions about Polamalu's future with Steelers

Polamalu could be playing 2013 for the sake of his 2014 contract in Pittsburgh. If he plays well, he could be too expensive next year. If he doesn't, he could be cut. Either way, his performance this year will set up an offseason negotiation.
