Judge Anthony Mariani to rule on whether to quash subpoena of Kevin Colbert

Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE

Defense attorneys representing the three men accused of stabbing and attempting to rob Steelers offensive tackle Mike Adams are trying to gain access to the Steelers' personnel file on Adams.

WPXI reporter Alan Jennings initially reported a subpoena attempt of Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert from defense attorneys representing the three men accused of stabbing and robbing Steelers offensive tackle Mike Adams in June, 2013. He followed that up Thursday with a tweet that Judge Anthony Mariani will rule Monday whether that subpoena attempt will be quashed.

The move made by those attorneys would make sense if they feel the Steelers are aware of some kind of previous connection between the defendants and Adams, or perhaps if there's anything the Steelers might know about Adams that somehow paints a picture of his involvement with them in some way.

That's beyond a stretch and a leap, though. We'll see how it all plays out, but this doesn't appear to be much of anything. There were some early indications Adams' version of the story changed when he appeared in court in July.

The accused - Jerrell Whitlock, Dquay Means and Michael Paranay — will stand trial for attempted homicide, conspiracy to steal a vehicle and other crimes when the case goes to trial. Randall McKinney, the attorney representing Paranay, has said Adams instigated the fight.
