The New York Jets upset the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 10 action last Sunday, but two people within the Jets organization are hurting financially this week.
Outside linebacker Jason Babin was fined $16,537 dollars for a low hit on Steelers' quarterback Ben Roethlisberger after the whistle had blown dead. The play was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct and gave the Steelers 15 yards and a fresh set of downs.
The fine to Babin shouldn't surprise anyone; however, the fine to head coach Rex Ryan for his post-game tirade which was caught on cameras cost the coach $100,000 dollars certainly wasn't expected. Chris Mortenson of ESPN.com reported via Twitter Ryan was a third-time offender which explains why the fine was so severe.
The fine to Babin marks the second consecutive week a defender has been flagged and fined for illegal hits on Ben Roethlisberger. In week 9, Baltimore Ravens Courtney Upshaw was fined and flagged for hitting Roethlisberger late and in the head.
