Meet Cortana. It predicts football games.
According to Business Insider, Cortana "is a Windows phone virtual assistant that uses a Bing Predicts algorithm to predict every NFL game. It began at the World Cup, where it correctly predicted 15 of 16 knockout stage games, and now it has moved on to the NFL."
It is giving the Steelers, favored by 3.5 points over the New Orleans Saints, a 75.4 percent chance of winning in Week 13. It only gave the Steelers a 59 percent chance of beating the Titans in Week 11.
This likely won't make Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin feel any better, and it shouldn't. Cortana, like most of the rest of the planet, picked the Steelers to beat the Jets in Week 10 with a 71 percent chance of success, and a whopping 78 percent chance of the Steelers beating the Buccaneers in Week 4.
In fact, it doesn't appear Cortana has any better of a read on the Steelers than fans do. Overall, it has picked five of the Steelers' 11 games correctly. It has picked the Steelers to win nine of their 11 games, only choosing the Panthers and Colts to top them. Both picks were wrong.
Week 1: Steelers over Browns (70.2 percent) - CORRECT
Week 2: Steelers over Ravens (59.8 percent) - WRONG
Week 3: Panthers over Steelers (67.4 percent) - WRONG
Week 4: Steelers over Buccaneers (75.4 percent) - WRONG
Week 5: Steelers over Jaguars (78.9 percent) - CORRECT
Week 6: Steelers over Browns (53.3 percent) - WRONG
Week 7: Steelers over Texans (55 percent) - CORRECT
Week 8: Colts over Steelers (56.6 percent) - WRONG
Week 9: Steelers over Ravens (67.7 percent) - CORRECT
Week 10: Steelers over Jets (71 percent) - WRONG
Week 11: Steelers over Titans (59 percent) - CORRECT
It would seem there are computer models as well as fans who feel the Steelers should be 9-2.
