One of the many extension stories that have been looked at this off-season was the case of Marcus Gilbert. Today that story comes to a close as the ex-Florida Gator inked a long deal today to be with the Steelers through 2019.
The former 2nd round draft pick and Steelers Rookie of the Year was pleased to know that he would be able to say he's going to be in Pittsburgh for many more years.
"It means I am locked in hopefully as a Steeler for the rest of my career," said Gilbert. "It's a blessing to work for a great organization, the Rooney family, Kevin Colbert and Coach (Mike) Tomlin. Just to be around in Pittsburgh, where they show you so much love, I couldn't be happier and in a better place."
As the offensive line looks to be improving under new position coach Mike Munchak, Gilbert is also happy to be part of that progress.
"I've seen the growth on the offensive line, the guys I came in with," said Gilbert. "The line is growing and we can become something special. That was one of my main focal points. To give everything I have to this organization means so much to me."
In 2014 the Steelers seem to be locking up the future of an offensive line unit that is very young. Earlier this Summer we saw center Maurkice Pouncey receive a long extension deal, and now Gilbert can say he will be able to play win Pittsburgh for a long time as well.
