When it was reported earlier Monday that Pittsburgh Steelers FB Roosevelt Nix would miss the rest of the season with an injured foot which will require surgery to repair, the team placed the rookie on injured reserve. With his spot as fullback and special teams now vacated, the team promoted L.J. Fort to the active roster.

The transaction is purely for special teams, as Will Johnson will likely fill in for Nix at the fullback position. Fort, who spent a large portion of training camp with the New England Patriots, will also add depth at the linebacker position with one week left in the regular season, and possibly beyond.
Fort has spent the season on the team's practice squad, and has gained an appreciation for Pittsburgh.
