The Pittsburgh Steelers wasted little time making a decision on what to do with outside linebackers coach Joey Porter in the aftermath of his Sunday night arrest. The team has placed him on leave, and you can see the statement released from GM Kevin Colbert.
Throughout the madness following the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-12 win in the AFC Wild Card game over the Miami Dolphins, plenty of story lines developed. Dominating defense, superstars playing a huge role, Ben Roethlisberger’s injured ankle and then the most unlikely story line — Joey Porter’s arrest.
Sunday night, while in the South Side, Porter was detained by police, but very few details were available at the time. Throughout the day Monday, more details were released, the first being the actual charges against Porter.
Per Jacob Klinger of PennLive.com, the charges were:
Simple Assault
Aggravated Assault
Public Drunkenness
Resisting Arrest or other law enforcement
Disorderly Conduct
Actual Communication
So, the next question on most people’s minds now is, "What caused Porter to do all of this?" Clearly, alcohol was involved, but a Trib-Live reporter was able to get some information on just what went down at this bar which resulted in Porter’s arrest.
Criminal complaint filed against Joey Porter indicates the ordeal started when security at The Flats on E Carson refused to let Porter in.

"Last time you were here, you threatened to kill me. You need to leave. You are not getting in," police say doorman told Porter.

When PBP officer(who was working off-duty security detail) approached, asked what's going on, Porter ignored him, officer wrote in complaint

Porter proceeded to pick up the doorman, at which point officer grabbed Porter, who then put the man down and grabbed the officer instead.

This isn’t the first run-in with the law Porter has had since being a part of the Pittsburgh Steelers organization. The team stated they will gather information before making a statement, but likely will let the judicial process take its course before having anything to say regarding a coach on their staff.
