Former Steelers Linebacker James Farrior's Agent Says 'Waiting For a Championship Opportunity'
Following up on a story we ran Friday in regards to the possibility of former Steelers linebacker James Farrior retiring, his agent, Ralph Cindrich, responded to a question posed via Twitter about it.
Cindrich's response suggested Farrior, the 13 year veteran, is waiting for a "championship opportunity."
Will one of those present itself for Farrior? It's an interesting question.
Report: Former Steelers LB James Farrior Talking With Steelers About Retirement
Ralph Cindrich, the agent of former Steelers LB James Farrior, said his free agent client is in discussion right now with the Pittsburgh Steelers about retirement. Cindrich said this on FM 93.7 The Fan radio in Pittsburgh Friday afternoon.
Farrior, a free agent, was released by the Steelers this off-season in the team’s roster purging. WR Hines Ward was also released, only to return to Pittsburgh to announce his retirement after testing the free agency market.
Willie Colon Moving from Right Tackle to Left Guard
Mike Prisuta reported Wednesday afternoon Steelers OL Willie Colon will move from right tackle to left guard, a move often discussed throughout Colon’s tenure with the team.
A report indicates the Steelers notified Colon of their intentions to move him to the left guard position after the draft, when they selected Stanford OG David DeCastro in the first round.
This strongly indicates DeCastro will remain at right guard, the position he played in college.
Is Baltimore Looking to Move to 23 to Take LB Dont'a Hightower?
ESPN's AFC North blogger Jamison Hensley summarized a bit of the latest log to the Steelers/Ravens burning inferno, mentioning the teams likely have many of the same players targeted for their respective first round picks in Thursday's draft.
Some of this could be fueled by a recent interview Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome had on the Ravens web site, and even more could be grounded in the mock draft done by SI's Peter King earlier this week - who had Baltimore trading up to No. 23 with Detroit, and taking Alabama LB Dont'a Hightower.
OT Jonathan Martin's Stock is Falling, Could That Be To the Steelers Benefit?
I recently published a piece illustrating my ideal Steelers Draft which is linked here. In that scenario, the Steelers decided that they would not be able to sign Mike Wallace to a long term deal so they traded him to the Vikings for a second and third round pick. This time however, the Steelers decide to re-sign Mike Wallace and do not trade any of there draft picks. Remember that all of these picks are available within five spots of Walter Footballs Mock Draft that was published on April 18.
Round 1 Pick 24 - Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford (6'6" - 304 pounds)
Report: Alabama Defensive Players Dont'a Hightower and Courtney Upshaw Visiting Steelers
A reader pointed out Alabama ILB Dont'a Hightower - a consensus front-running pick for the Steelers at 24 in April's draft - landed in Pittsburgh Wednesday evening, per Hightower's Twitter account.
Hightower, along with teammate OLB Courtney Upshaw, were expected to visit Pittsburgh in one of the team's 30 pre-draft visits.
Report: Mike Wallace To Leave Tender Contract Unsigned
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday afternoon Steelers restricted free agent WR Mike Wallace is not planning to sign his RFA tender offer from Pittsburgh. It's a one year guaranteed contract worth about $2.7 million.
In doing so, he's saying he's not playing until he gets the contract he wants.
His motivations behind this could be numerous, but at its core, it's a leverage move by Wallace and his agent to negotiate a higher long-term contract - something both sides have said they want.
Steelers and Jerricho Cotchery Reportedly Reach a Deal
According to Manish Mehta, Jets beat writer for the New York Daily News, Jerricho Cotchery has just inked a two-year contract with the Steelers. Other teams who showed interest in Cotchery during free agency were the Rams, the Chiefs, and the Jets.
