Brian Hoyer's days with Steelers are numbered
Hoyer was an instant fan favorite for seven quarters of football, though he never took a snap. Now, it looks like he never will.

Mike Tomlin called an impromptu Wednesday press conference to give his opinion on the status of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. One viable reason for that could have to do with a report CBS Sports ran Sunday before the Steelers Week 14.
Roethlisberger practiced fully Wednesday, and according to multiple sources, looked strong enough to be effective in their Week 14 game against the Chargers.
At Mike Tomlin's press conference Tuesday, he said the same thing he did last week; Charlie Batch is the starter, and Ben Roethlisberger has the chance to change that in practice this week.
Lending weight to skepticism that Ike Taylor is out for a significant amount of time, the Steelers are reportedly hosting free agent cornerback Stanford Routt for a workout.
Roethlisberger was limited in practice the entire week leading into the Steelers' Week 13 game against Baltimore. It's up in the air whether he'll play Sunday against San Diego, and that is likely to be the same report through Thursday.
The reigning Defensive Player of the Year left the game during the Steelers' final drive. It resulted in Shaun Suisham's game-winning 42-yard field goal.
Taylor has started every game for the Steelers since 2007, and Week 12 of the 2012 season was his 123rd consecutive regular season game appearance. He has an MRI scheduled for Monday. He would be replaced by Cortez Allen in the starting lineup.
CBS Sports reporter Jason LaCanfora wrote Roethlisberger had the opportunity to practice fully Friday and was cleared to do so, but chose not to, putting him out of Sunday's Week 13 game against Baltimore.
