Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

Steelers Should Draft Marshawn Lynch

I know, I know, we need a shut down corner, especially in light the Ike Taylor trauma, but the best secondary guy who may fall to us, LaRon Landry, is more of a safety.  And we need an outside linebacker, especially in light of Porter's volatile situation, but the position is rather weak this year.  And we need an offensive guard, but the first round may not be the right time. So, what do the final four NFL teams this year have in common?  They all have dual running backs.  The Jones/Benson tandem beat Duece/Bush and the Rhodes/Addai duo beat Maroney/Dillon.  What does that say?  I submit that Fast Willie needs help and the best NFL player sitting 15th this April will be Marshawn Lynch.  In subsequent rounds we can fill the other needs.

interesting take
I think I would go O-Line or D-Line/Linebacker in the 1st.  I think there will be better RB value later in the draft.  Although I do agree that it would be nice to have another RB that can split carries.

i like it maryrose....
It's a good take and bringing up the final four teams with tandem back situations is interesting.
But I still think we need a new LB with our aging corp. I havne't done much research into this draft to know where the strong positions are yet, but I think that should factor into our position as well.

Not a Steeler guy
His recent trouble with the law leads me to believe he won't be considered seriously by Pittsburgh.

Further, I think I might rather Pittsburgh draft to other needs in the first round and go after someone like Rutgers' Brian Leonard in round three.

Paul Posluszny would be a good choice...
for OLB. He's a Pennsylvania native and went to PSU. He's been considered as the best LB in school history. He's only the second player to win the Bednarik twice (defensive player of the year). Plus he's been on the all Big Ten acedemic team. In short he seems like the Steeler's kind of guy. Also, he's ranked 19 overall on Rivals.com's top 100 draft pospects.

If Poz doesn't get drafted then I'd like to see Lawrence Timmons(#35).

I did a work up...
of the top 32 draft choices as rated by Scouts, Inc. and my focus was on the defensive side of the ball.  You can view it here courtesy of HogsHaven and I think it would be helpful if you're thinking the Steelers will go defense in round 1.  Some of those players will probably be available early to mid round 2 as well.

The depth of the draft seems weighted heavily on the D-Line, so I think OLB or O-Line might be a better value at 15.  I think Timmons might be a stretch, but Poz will make plays... especially when surrounded by the talent that PIT has in the linebacking and secondary.

I hate
to keep touting Arky players, but I have been to every game this year, as well as DVR'd them all(thank the Lord in Heaven for that invention), but you guys should take Anderson at 6.  He will be the anchor for years to come in someone's Dline, and you guys could use the help there.  He is amazing.

Considering that
Tomlin will eventually switch us to a 4-3, I'd like to see the foundation laid for that as quickly as possible - it's not the sort of thing that can be accomplished in a single offseason.

To that end, I'd take a pass-rushing De in the first round - Gaines Adams is probably out of the question, but Jarvis Moss or Quentin Moses are both standouts as well. They carry the added bonus of being able to play OLB as well, which would help if Tomlin and LeBeau carry through with that loose talk of showing different fronts throughout the season.

Failing that, I think I'd take a LB before an RB, for the same reason as steelinnj: They're getting old, and three of them become free agents after the coming season. This unit needs to be rebuilt, and soon. If Posluszny's knee injury still isn't a question mark come draft time, I wouldn't have a problem with taking him. While I'd like to see the offense spell Parker more often than they did last time, he's not in urgent need of replacement.

Clarification:
We're not in urgent need of a RB - not a first-rounder who would eat up a lot of cap-space, at least. A two-back rushing attack can probably be built with Parker and Davenport, but failing that, a capable second rusher can be picked up in the later rounds, or, less attractively, in free-agency.

Do we
want to pay first round money, 15th pick first round money to a tandem runner?  I think he's great, and will be great, but thats a lotta money to be paying a guy that plays sparingly.  I know Bush gets big money, but u gotta think that they drafted him with the thought of losing McAllister soon.
