Steelers Re-Sign Hoke

Backup nose tackle Chirs Hoke, signed a new, four-year contract late last week. The deal will keep him in a Steelers uniform through 2010. The four-year agreement will pay Hoke a total of $6 million, with $1.5 million paid upfront.

At first I thought this was too much money to pay, but considering that $1.5 million will be prorated over the life of the contract (four years), it's barely a blimp on our salary cap radar.

Hoke's serviceable. He filled in decently for Casey Hampton in 2004 when Hampton was sidelined with injuries. Hopefully we won't see him on the field too much, as Hampton is undeniably one of the absolute cornerstones of our defense.

I got paaaaaid!

Good for Mr. Hoke though. He seems to be a well-liked hard worker who knows his role on this team. Now he's got some extra change in his pocket.

Hoke's contract
that's actually pretty cheap, he probably could've gotten more on the free agent market.

Definitely,
I'm surprised we were able to get him below mearket value. Hopefully this is a pattern with our veterans...

I thought Hoke was fantastic during his 2004 stint, personally. Not quite up to Hampton's standard, but Casey's the elite for a NT.

Good resign
Now they need to concentrate on Troy.  I really don't want to worry about that once the season starts.

On a side note - anyone want to take a flyer on Tank Johnson?  If Timlin has any thoughts on switching to 4-3, a duo of Hampton and Tank would be formidable.  Horrible off the field but it sounds like he'll probably have the entire '07 season to straighten himself out.  Also if no team signs him before the season starts does his eight game suspension not start until he is signed or can it start when the season starts.

I like this...
Hoke is solid and I like having him on the team.  I don't think Troy will be as much a problem as everyone thinks.  Troy is a different kind of player man.  He's not ALL about the money, or so one of his quotes said ( i think I saw it on ESPN ) but i'm sure he will want something comparable.  We'll keep him, don't fret.  The new madden rates him a 99, c'mon, we gotta keep Troy!

When in doubt, refer to Madden ratings :)
