they're really going to need another RB to step up at some point.

Nice to see that trick play in there. We seem to be adjusting faster than we did in previous years, the defense is now grinding them to a halt much quicker.

Wish the Steelers played more west coast game for my sake, because they rarely air them down here.

well
probably not quite as good as the box score. the pick 6 and dookie's td were in garbage time.  The defense was solid again and the offense was efficient but still some room for improvement.  Also of note apparently Hines took a pretty good shot and snuck out to avoid talking to reporters. That's why Sepulveda was on the hands team to field the onside kick.  Apparently he's the backup for Ward on that unit. He can do everything!

Good but not great
A comfortable win and a good performance but a few things can be improved upon. The 49ers were better than I expected especially on offense, which isn't a bad thing - after this I can see them knocking off CIN or BAL or both in what will be home games for them.

On offense, we gouged them repeatedly running the ball inside the tackles. It would be nice to see if we can get the same production without wearing Willie out. Ben's sack and fumble seemed like a missed assignment and Clements did shut down Ward but overall there's no doubt we're seeing fewer unsafe throws from Ben this year, i.e., he's doing a better job taking what the defense is giving him and not forcing it.

Defense did well but a good tight end predictably made some key plays against them. There's gotta be a better defense against that. Also, we shouldn't let a QB get away with his legs as much as we did with Smith. He's mobile but he's not Vince Young.

Special teams: Tomlin's looking pretty smart with the trade for Rossum and Skippy did well to a kick a 49 yarder into the open end - I didn't expect him to make it with his spotty record at Heinz Field last year.

Looking ahead to 'zona - need to make sure we're changing up the audibles, signals, tendencies etc. this week - Whiz and Grimm have plenty of inside info. I think I'd prefer they start Leinart - Warner seemed pretty sharp against the Ravens in relief.
