I Made a Comprehensive Draft List

For those who are interested.  I listed each position about 12-15 deep on a spreadsheet, including name, college, height, weight and 40 time.  Because it is in Excel, you can re-arrange as you wish.  I tweak my list from now until the Draft and then use it to follow the Draft.  You can email me at twg@oac.org if you want me to send you the list.  If Blitz wants to post to make available, that is good too.

Hey I was just wondering which site you were using to get your information and most importantly 40 times. I'm trying to compile of list of prospects myself but I'm also trying to find the birthdates of each prospect. Some sites I've seen some sites that don't list that piece of info at all (NFL Draft Countdown) while others (New Era Scouting) have it listed for some guys but not all.

The reason I'm trying to get that is because I was suprised at how much of a difference in age some prospects were regardless of whether they were seniors or juniors. For example, Gosder Cherilus is almost exactly a full two years younger than Jeff Otah, and they're both seniors. I know that the difference for the most part will depend on if a guy red-shirted or not but I would think that age would have to play at least some role in the selection process come draft time if two guys are valued about the same (and no I'm not saying that Cherilus and Otah are valued similar).

Couple of points about age
I was surprised at first when you said Cherilus was younger than Otah, because Cherilus is from Boston College.  Since their former coach, Tom O'Brien is the coach at NC State now, I have become aware that O'Brien had built a team with several 5th year seniors this year.  Also, during his time there, I don't think O'Brien lost many players to the NFL early.

Another point as to why there would be a discrepancy in ages: I can see two reasons that there would be up to 2 or 3 years difference. First, alot of these guys have to go to a prep school after high school because they don't meet the academic requirements.  One year there, and they still have 5 years to complete 4 years of playing eligibility.  Second is just the redshirt year.

Also, if a player flunked out a year in one of his pre-college years, that would set him back, and make him more likely to require the prep school I guess.  Anyway, just a couple of thoughts on that.

Another discrepancy...
is simply the calendar.  There has to be a cutoff date to be in certain grades growing up. There are those who just miss the cutoff by a day or two, meaning people might be one day younger than someone else, but they fall into the lower grade.  That carries into college.  That's an exaggeration, but being one month or two months younger yet a whole grade year is rather common.

Add it all together - the 1-month difference, throw in a redshirt or medical hardship or maybe a kid just held back a year by his parents, and you can easily see a two or three year difference in these kids.

Excellent point by the way, CGolden, a guy three years younger would be a huge advantage in an industry where splitting hairs is a science.

The list is a conglomerate
Of many other lists and opinions..It is a composite if you will (like my Tomlin there?).  I combined Mel Kiper, Scouts Inc., Walter and a few other mocks...Let's have fun with it.

gotcha
I wasn't trying to knock your list or anything, I'm just trying to find a site that lists the prospects' Date of Birth on thier scouting report or bio. I know I can find it by searching each player individually but that's obviously very time consuming.

Wow..
I didn't think you were knocking my list in the least! I just checked all my sources and I can't find any that have birth dates..If I run into one I'll let you know...
