To all the True Pats Fans...

I have been pretty quiet lately, an unfortunate side effect of the steelers losing in the playoffs.  I have a hard time getting into any game, even though I happen to really like the Packers, I can't sit through an entire game.  Not to mention the hype surrounding a team that I just can't stand.  I don't want to sit and listen to Phil or Dick or Morgan or Tony or any other talking head reference the Patriots every other play.  Superbowl XLII proved to be all that I could have hoped for.  Most people believed this game to be a foregone conclusion, a footnote in the greatest season in NFL history blah blah blah.  To see Tom Brady walk off the field repeatedly frustrated, to see Belichick give up and walk onto the field with time still on the clock and give his fake congratulations, made me feel downright whimsical.   I'm serious.  It was beautiful.  I haven't wanted someone to lose that badly since the Braves in 95.  So I can't wait to hear some of the excuses that you folks bring up.  All just about every Pats fan did that I met throughout the   entire season was gloat and preen.  The fans on TV, in person, all the same.  Well, what are you folks saying at the moment?  How is that 16 - 0 tasting right about now?

F the Pats and F thier perfect season
They jinxed themselves so much in the past two weeks, they finally got what they deserved. They continually defied the football gods with a Perfect Season book, trademark and announcing thier parade route all before they had finished the job.

I loved seeing that red hoodie run back the locker room with his tail between his legs, talk about showing class (didn't Moss get blasted for the exact same thing a couple years ago).

No class Belicheat*
How do you leave the field before the game is over? How do you leave your team out there to take a snap without you?
This was the most fun you can have watching a Super Bowl the Steelers aren't winning! The best non Steelers SB since the 2002 TB Buc's absolutely embarrassed the Raida's.
Look out though, the Pats* are going to be mad next year!

18 and 1
Shouldn't Belicheat be fined for this?  If not by the league, at least by his own organization?  Yes... It sucks to lose, but you stand there and take it like a man.  You congratulate the coach, maybe Eli and Strahan and the leave with your head held high.  More than anything he vindicated all the slanderous talk about him.

And yes steelerark, I would agree that was the most fun I could possibly have without the steelers winning.  I haven't had that much angst watching a football game since Jags in the playoffs.

also pointed out by Peter King and I'm sure many more... Where was the coaching changes that make Belichick famous?  Brady's being harrassed all night long, hit something like 18 times.  And yet no change to a power running game like Maroney's been able to do this postseason, or bring a tightend and RB back to block?  Nope, let's keep em 4 wide and make do, we're the f-ing Patriots and we will get a perfect season on the arm of Tom Terrific.  Belichick, outcoached???  I'll be damned.

The only thing that soured the entire experience for me was the Big Ben commercial... Oh dear lord, Ben... You'll get payed this year, I promise. Just don't do any singing commercials again.  Can we put that in his contract?

Can you say, "Gone with his tapes?"  Maybe after Arlen Specter came after Goodell, Goodell came back to Bill just check on any more tapes.  All kept hush hush, of course, though.

Pats* Fans?
Yeah, where are the Pats fans today?  At various points this season, we had Pats fans on the board talking trash about Ben, etc.  I remember one saying that Ben won't be winning a SB like Tom was going to this year.  Couldn't have happened to a more deserving team. :)

And, yeah, how about Belicheat and most of the team running off the field with a second left?  They did show that at least Moss learned his lesson, because he was still on the field.

Crawl out from under your rock, please....

I see you knew
who I was thinking about.  :)

So, Patriot Nation, where are you, buddy?

heh
mainly my comment was geared towards a certain pats fan who constantly jawed at us on this site, the one to whom I reference in the title.  Go to any football message board.  All you hear is pats fans talking about Brady's ankle, or talking about stats and scoffing at the loss.  Man, I am in heaven right now.

I still can't believe the Belichick left the game early.  Unbelievable.  Man go to CBS.com on their NFL message boards to see just how they are responding to that.  Priceless.

TruPatsFan?
Didn't Blitzburgh ban him?  Yeah, he was a tool.  I wondered if Patriot Nation was the same guy with a different login.

karma
that's what their fans get for supporting a team that cheated.  and to think the Pats fans got all defensive when they were accused of cheating, instead of taking it like men and saying "you're right, we cheated and i'm disgusted by it" (which is how i would feel).  boston is the lamest place on earth.  always has been.

That's what
I always thought too.  I would love for the Steelers to 19-0, but not with allegations of cheating hanging around.  And, we had all these Pats fans explaining it away, while most of the media just kind of went along with it, saying how awesome Tom Brady is, etc., etc.  Even if they had won, there would still be that at the back of your mind, "What role did the cheating play in that season?", "Did the league just sweep it under the rug after the punishment was given (i.e. was there really any followup, and if so, how do we know that it was effective)?"

Anyway, like most of the rest here, I loved to see them lose.

great game
Counting their Week 17 matchup, the Giants had spent three weeks over the past month and a half preparing for the Patriots and even had what amounted to a rehearsal game against them. The Giants were well-prepared mentally and knew they could compete physically. It's tough, when you're winning, to make changes to the way you do things. I'm not sure Belichick was outcoached so much as his players were just outplayed.  That last winning drive was a classic, three great third-down plays (including that low catch that led to the fourth-down conversion) and a catch by Tyree that goes down with Lynn Swann's vs. Dallas as the greatest catch in Super Bowl history.

I'm not sure turning to the running game would have made any difference. Maroney had something like 20 yards rushing and the Pats were getting 4-6 yards on short passes. They just couldn't protect Brady more than three seconds. With one less receiver, they get more double coverage. Losing their RG (Neal) fairly early didn't help especially with RT Kasczur being a weak link. That's not bad coaching, that's just a d-line kicking the shit out of the offensive line and linebackers and secondary executing their coverages. Now Brady knows what Ben had to deal with all year, and yesterday the Patriots would have been better off with Ben at QB.

But it was hilarious watching Belichick leave the field early. I think he initially honestly thought time had run out and sought out Coughlin for the handshake, but when he finally figured it out, decided he might as well keep going.  What a class act he is .... NOT!!!!

The play of the Giants front seven really showed something important for the Steelers. They need more depth and versatility in their 3-4. Giants backup linemen and linebackers came in and made big plays. A rookie DT comes in and gets a sack on the last seriees. You have to go hard every play and that means having enough fresh bodies with the talent to come in and go hard and make a play. I'd love the Steelers to come up with a big fast DE who can spell Keisel and Smith or even allow Smith to slide over to DT and present a true four-man front, at least on some occasions. You start blitzing Harrison or Woodley behind a good 4-man front and you will see some damage done.
