Draft Buzz

Alright I know it's not the time to look ahead, but I just saw Todd McShay's mock draft on ESPN.com and he has us selecting DE Tyson Jackson in the first round. I don't know if I'm missing something, or maybe the experts know something nobody else does, but defensive line? Yes we are getting older across the board and with a three man line depth has been a little suspect over the last two years but come on. There is one glaring weakness on this team and I don't even have to tell anyone what it is, we know.

Tyson Jackson has been projected as our pick for a while now (by McShay) and he's a great player, no knock on him. Is it because of the lack of an "elite" tackle prospect where we are projected? I don't get it. I'll take the best guard available if that's the case.

By the way if we do go defensive, big if, would we take him? We do draft for a year or two from now, so maybe. I like two other defensive guys, but they are both projected to go ahead of us so maybe they aren't too realistic of choices (Rey Maualuga ILB and Taylor Mays FS).  Both are probably top ten picks, but if I've learned anything about the draft it's that anyone can go anywhere, and we are not afraid to take an outside the box choice, should one happen to fall to us.

ANY THOUGHTS?

To rest, or not to rest...

That is the question, for now at least. Do we push forward and try to beat the Brownies senseless in our house, or play a half or so and rest our squad. We have the first round bye, so there is time to rest. But do we, following a loss try and develop a little more momentum going into that bye week and try and carry it over to the playoffs by beating down a weak Browns team. Our offense really hasn't clicked on all cylinders to say the least, and the Browns D maybe what we need to get everybody on the same page. A big win would be huge for us. I can honestly say I have no idea what the best move is, normally I'd say rest 'em, but following an emotional loss I can see the other side of the arguement. Any thoughts?

What I've seen on the Redskins

Luckily for me I have the Sunday Ticket and have seen alot of teams at their best and worst. I also have a roomate who is a Redskins fan, so I've sat through  most of 5 Skins games already this year. In my opinion, the Redskins strengths, for the most part, play into what we do well.

Speed rush seems to beat them on the edges. Samuels (LT) is about a week away from season ending surgery on his knee, probably won't see much action if any. Jansen (RT) is a shadow of his formerly dominant self, and they have a rookie fill in both sides. Harrison, Woodley and probably Timmons should be able to get to Campbell early and often.

Portis is a beast, and is a top 3 RB, I think, in the league. Odviously his numbers back that up, and most people know he's great. But he is beat up, and if we can hit him hard, we can contain him fairly well. A couple of big time shots and Shaun Alexander gets the rock. He's down on first contact more than 75% of the time, he is nowhere close to the player he was, and unless he gets great blocking won't be much of a threat at all. Plus nobody stops the run like we do.

Speed WR's all day. They have to pretty fast guys out there, if Santana plays. Randle El is elusive and tricky, but since he took off the black and gold, doesn't really play consistently at all. Unfortunately for us we are hurt in the secondary, but with our no deep plays approach, we should slow them down a little. TE Cooley is a wild card, if they get him involved he is dangerous, but they haven't done that week to week yet.

Jason Campbell is itching to turn it over. He hasn't yet, at least  with interceptions. I've got a side bet he throws 2, we'll see.

The Redskins will not have Jason Taylor, I don't think, but even with him the pass rush hasn't been great. We struggle with speed rush so Andre Carter is the biggest worry I have going in. The LB's are good. Athletic, fast, and London Fletcher is a tackling machine. But they are a little on the small side, not Indy small, but if we can get a blocker on them the running game should be good to go. They may not have Shawn Springs but Carlos Rogers is pretty good too. Landry is great, but they' ve had a rookie back there, Chris Horton. He's got great hands for a DB, reads a qb well, but is not the best square up and tackle guy.

With all that said, we should win this game, injuries may hurt us, but we've pushed through those all year so far. Protect Ben, and for Ben, that internal clock needs to speed up, get it out of your hand into our other playmakers' hands, and we win going away. I don't want to see him hold the ball for 6+ seconds after snap. CHECKDOWNS, Willie and Mewelde all day.

WE HAVE TO WIN THIS GAME. Baltimore is one out in the division and we go into a stretch of schedule that is not very condusive to a playoff run. LETS GET IT TOGETHER NOW. If not for Steeler Nation, for me, so I don't have to listen to a damn Redskins fan bring this up every day for the rest of the season.
