Big Ben Hurt In Motorcycle Accident

Steelers 3rd year quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, was injured late Monday morning in a  motorcylce accident. He was rushed to nearby Mercy Hospital for emergency surgery.

Tim Benz of ESPN Radio in Pittsburgh, said Big Ben was not wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.  Roethlisberger is listed as being in serious but stable condition.

Apparently Pennsylvania law no longer requires the wearing of helmets on motorcycles as of several years ago.  Coach Bill Cowher had previously warned Ben about the dangers of riding sans helmet even if it was no longer illegal, but apaprently that didn't resonate with Ben.  At the time, Ben had said:

"He talked about being a risk-taker and I'm not really a risk-taker. I'm pretty conservative and laid back, but the big thing is to just be careful," Roethlisberger said at the time. "I'll just continue to be careful. I told him we don't ever ride alone, we always ride in a group of people, and I think it makes it even more safe."

More updates on Roethlisberger's status as it becomes available.  Until then, let's all hope and pray everything's ok.
