ESPN is reporting that the Steelers have signed rookie tailback Cedric Humes. The seventh round draft choice from Virginia Tech is listed at 6-0, 227 pounds - a hefty size for a tailback of that size. Known as a runner who can get tough yards between the tackles, Humes scored 21 touchdowns as a Hokie.
It's doubtful the Steelers have plans to use Humes this year, but he's an intriguing late round pick. Pittsburgh, we should note, has a strong track record of success in finding undervalued talent at tailback. Fast Willie Parker was an unsigned rookie free agent when he joined the Steelers.
