Rooney Explains Marino Decision, Other Tidbits in New Book

In a new book titled "My 75 Years With The Pittsburgh Steelers And The NFL", Pittsburgh Steelers owner and chairman Dan Rooney answers and explains some of the looming questions surrounding the Steelers history, including the absence cheerleaders on the sidelines, why logos are on only one side of the helmet, and perhaps most notably, the reason why the organization passed on local product Dan Marino in the 1983 draft.

The answer as to why Rooney axed The Steelerettes is somewhat obvious, but the explanation behind the logos and the Marino decision, and how that affected his decision to draft Roethlisberger nearly twenty years later, is more interesting. The book is scheduled for release next month.
