With the 46th pick of the 2007 SBN Football Bloggers' Mock Draft, BTSC selects Anthony Spencer, DE Purdue. Check out Pride of Detroit to see who was selected earlier in Round 2.
Despite having selected Jarvis Moss with our first round pick, we had to take Spencer at this spot. I've seen Spencer as high as #25 or so on several boards, and was astounded he had fallen all the way to the mid 40s.
What's appealing to me is Spencer's ability to play as a pass-rushing LB if the Steelers do decide to stay in the 3-4, and his ability to be a DE in the 4-3 as well. Again, versatility was highly valued by us when making these choices.
On a recent ESPN radio interview, Wisconsin OT Joe Thomas was asked who he thought was the most talented pass rusher in this year's draft. His response: Anthony Spencer.
Spencer may be a bit undersized at about 265 pounds, but his low center of gravity combined with his exceptional first-step (aka explosiveness) should more than make up for his current lack of bulk. Scouts also believe Spencer should have no trouble improving his playing strength.

We've got one more pick in the Mock Draft, and I can guarantee you it won't be another DE/LB. I'm quite pleased with both our selections to this point however.
