Steelers Legends to be Honored this Sunday

As part of the Steelers' 75th anniversary celebration this year, the Steelers will name a Legends Team consisting of former Steelers who played before 1970.

Chairman Dan Rooeny explained the motives behind the decision to honor the former players who are often overlooked when Steelers' tradition is discussed:

"There were a lot of great Steelers prior to 1970, who were as good as today's superstars, but fewer people got to see them play," said Steelers chairman Dan Rooney. "We are looking forward to welcoming the Legends Team and having today's fans see some of the great Steelers from the pre-1970 era."

The group of 24 honorees, which will be honored at halftime during the Steelers home opener this Sunday, was voted on by a panel consiting of Dan Rooney, Art Rooney Jr., former broadcaster Myron Cope, former director of communications Joe Gordon, former running back and longtime running backs coach Dick Hoak, former team public relations director Ed Kiely, former assistant director of player personnel Bill Nunn, and former Pittsburgh Press sports editor Roy McHugh.
