Twas the Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the Nation,

there was nary a hope for the season's salvation.

With Super Bowl glory still fresh in our heart,

it was hard to believe that it all fell apart.

First the Chiefs then the Raiders and finally the Browns,

the Steelers were playing like carnival clowns.

But just when the season was almost ablaze,

the Jacksonville Jaguars lost twice in five days.

The Jets and the Broncos at home lost their clash,

while the Dolphins were drunkened in Tennessee Mash.

But none of it mattered, the biggest game lacking,

if the Steelers could not send Green Bay packing.

Three ticks on the clock and trailing by six,

Big Ben reached down deep in his great bag of tricks.

With only one place he could possibly throw,

Big Ben heaved his fastball outside and low.

And there was Mike Wallace in jaws of defeat,

cradling the pigskin and dragging his feet.

While hope springs eternal we continue the fight,

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
