AFC Playoff Scenarios, Week 14

We're three-quarters of the way through the 2010 NFL regular season. 12 games down, four still to be played over the course of the next 25 days or so. Exciting time of year for football fans, no two ways about it. And as these next few weeks unfold, it's only going to get more hectic and interesting as fans try to figure out all the myriad scenarios in which their favorite team may or may not qualify for the postseason.

Lots of football to be played, but let's see where we stand in the AFC heading into Week 14.

AFC Playoff Scenarios:

CLINCHED: None

PITTSBURGH STEELERS

Pittsburgh clinches a playoff spot with:

  1. PIT win + JAX loss or tie + NE win or tie + MIA loss or tie OR

  2. PIT win + IND loss or tie + NE win or tie + MIA loss or tie OR

  3. PIT win + IND loss or tie + NE win or tie + OAK loss or tie + SD loss or tie OR

  4. PIT win + IND loss or tie + MIA loss or tie + OAK loss or tie OR

  5. PIT tie + MIA loss or tie + OAK loss or tie + SD loss or tie + IND loss

There are other scenarios in which the Steelers may clinch a playoff spot if they clinch the strength of victory tiebreaker over certain teams this weekend.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

New England clinches a playoff spot with:

  1. NE win or tie OR

  2. MIA loss or tie + JAX loss or tie OR

  3. MIA loss or tie + IND loss or tie

There are other scenarios in which the Patriots may clinch a playoff spot if they clinch the strength of victory tiebreaker over certain teams this weekend.

NEW YORK JETS

New York Jets clinch a playoff spot with:

  1. NYJ win + SD loss or tie + JAX loss or tie OR

  2. NYJ win + SD loss or tie + IND loss or tie OR

  3. NYJ tie + OAK loss or tie + SD loss + IND loss
