Many thanks to Justin Azevedo for the very timely pick. Probably a solid selection for the Chargers needs too. Moving on! Next up? The very intriguing New York Jets at #29, represented by BlackandGold. -Michael Bean-

The Chargers have two glaring needs: a DT and a running back. Darren Sproles is too small to be a every-down back, and with the departure of Jamal Williams, Ogemdi Nwagbuo needs some help. So, with that in mind, in the 2010 NFL entry draft, San Diego Chargers pick...
Ryan Matthews, RB, Fresno State.
This was a pretty easy pick, with no 1st round talent left in the DT/DE pool, and it fills the demand for someone else behind Rivers. This also sets up the Chargers to take a T or DE with similar "value" in the second round. Now, if I were the Chargers, I would try and trade into the early 2nd round and get Lamarr Houston or Linval Joseph, but the DE/DT class is deep this year, so trading up may not be needed.
