We're less than two hours from kickoff between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Indianapolis Colts. Can't wait. In the meantime, let's see what's shaken out around the rest of the National Football League.
In early game action....
- The Cleveland Browns overcome a poor day offensively at just the right time as Colt McCoy leads a 13-play, 80-yard drive in 2:40 seconds. Pretty crazy to have that long of a drive occupy so little game clock. The Browns improve to 2-1 with the win, while Miami drops to 0-3. Reggie Bush's line: 11 carries, 24 yards, 2 fumbles, one of which was lost.
- Mechem called it. The San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals squared off in a battle of mediocrity and field goals. San Francisco gets the 13-8 win.
- To round out the AFC North, Baltimore is routing St. Louis. No surprise there; the Ravens were angry after getting punched in the mouth by Tennessee last week. Rookie Torrey Smith had, count it, three touchdown receptions, all in the first quarter.
- Speaking of Tennessee, the Titans improve to 2-1 with a 95-yard touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter to take a 17-14 lead. The defense did the rest as the woeful Broncos couldn't muster much of anything when it mattered most. The big news of the day though for Tennessee was the loss of Kenny Britt for the season most likely with an ACL and MCL tear.
- Back to earth, back to reality for Cam Newton. After throwing for over 400 yards in each of first two weeks, the No. 1 overall pick threw for just 158 yards on 32 passing attempts. The Panthers did pick up their first win though as fellow first round rookie Blaine Gabbert failed to ignite the Jacksonville offense in his first career start.
- Jeez, another week, another blow lead by the Minnesota Vikings. Leading 20-0, the Vikings allowed the Detroit Lions to fight their way back into it before finishing them off in overtime. Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson are one dangerous combo.
- Hope you took the over on the Saints and Texans. The two high powered offenses scored five fourth quarter touchdowns. Brees and Schaub each threw for three touchdowns. We'll take a closer look at Houston leading up to their Week 4 matchup with Pittsburgh.
- Michael Vick breaks his non-throwing hand during Philadelphia's 29-16 loss to the New York Giants.
- How about the Oakland Raiders running all over the New York Jets' defense. The Raiders stable of backs has run for over 200 yards with over 7 minutes still to play in the fourth quarter. The Jets are driving down 31-17 though, so game is not over just yet.
- And last but certainly not least, the Buffalo Bills! Trailing the New England Patriots by 21 points early, Ryan Fitzpatrick leads Buffalo back from a big deficit for the second straight week. Tom Brady throws for well over 300 yards and 4 TDs, but 4 INTs by the Bills defense, including one that was returned for a score, allowed them to fight their way back into it
We'll recap the week's action more comprehensively this week.
