Redskins Cut Former Steelers LB Gibson

Washington announced the release of LB Thaddeus Gibson in wake of the 6 p.m. ET deadline to slim rosters to 53.

San Francisco released Gibson earlier this preseason, and both Pittsburgh and Washington (and Chicago) put claims in for the former Steelers 4th round pick.

Would the Steelers be interested in picking Gibson up?

Pittsburgh waived Gibson in October in order to sign DL Steve McLendon from the practice squad. The Steelers had hopes to re-sign him. San Francisco claimed him, and kept him on their roster for the remainder of the 2010 season.

Teams will be monitoring the releases of other teams, looking to find other players who may fill a need. The Steelers are deliberating their final cuts, but it's possible they may think about bringing him on board, given their past interest in the second-year player from Ohio State.

Gibson is still eligible for the practice squad, given he hasn't been active for nine games, and with his release from Washington, any team - including Washington - can sign him to their practice squad.
