Pittsburgh Steelers strong safety Troy Polamalu has already been ruled out of Sunday's Week 8 matchup against the Washington Redskins, Steelers coach head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday.
Polamalu is still struggling with the lingering effects of a calf injury that was sustained in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos. He returned for the first quarter of the Steelers win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
He wasn't expected to play in this game, and is probably still a few weeks away, but the team has said they'll treat him week-to-week.
After missing the team's two most recent games against the Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals, Polamalu will miss his third consecutive game.
Right tackle Marcus Gilbert has also been ruled out for Sunday's game due to an ankle injury that kept him out of Week 7. Rookie Mike Adams will make his second career start.
