Report: Plaxico Burress to work out and take physical with the Steelers

ESPN reported the former Steelers wide receiver may be coming back to Pittsburgh.

A report surfaced that former Steelers, Giants and Jets wide receiver Plaxico Burress will work out with the Steelers and take a physical this week.

The injury suffered by Jerricho Cotchery late in the Steelers' Week 11 loss to Baltimore may be significant enough to merit a free agent move. WR Antonio Brown has missed the last two games with a high ankle sprain, and a move to work Burress out could mean he won't be ready to play in Week 12 - maybe longer.

All of this comes in wake of the report QB Byron Leftwich has two broken ribs, and won't play in the Steelers' Week 12 game at Cleveland. Veteran Charlie Batch is expected to get the start.

Burress last played for the Jets in 2011, when he had 45 catches and 612 yards and eight touchdowns.

The loss to the Ravens put the Steelers in a tough but manageable spot for a playoff berth. The injuries to two quarterbacks and now two wide receivers will potentially hurt those chances, but clearly, the team is making moves out of the spirit of continuing to fight for the postseason.
