Steelers trim Baron Batch, Marshall McFadden from roster to make room for Plaxico Burress and Brian Hoyer

Injuries forced the Steelers to make a few decisions Tuesday, and those decisions led to the release of running back Baron Batch and linebacker Marshall McFadden

The Steelers released running back Baron Batch and linebacker Marshall McFadden to make room for recently signed wide receiver Plaxico Burress and quarterback Brian Hoyer Tuesday.

Batch, a 7th round pick in 2011, has 49 yards on 25 carries with a touchdown this season. He's been part of an often-injured running back group that could be without at least Isaac Redman (concussion) in their Week 12 game against Cleveland.

Batch has been active for 10 games this season, meaning he is not practice squad eligible, and can sign with any other team.

McFadden was signed before the Steelers' Week 11 game against Baltimore.

Burress was signed to establish depth behind Mike Wallace and Emmanuel Sanders in wake of injuries to Antonio Brown and Jerricho Cotchery. Hoyer was signed due to an injury to Byron Leftwich suffered in Week 11, and will serve as the team's back-up quarterback behind Charlie Batch in Week 12.
