Injuries crop up at the end of the Fantasy Football season, and sometimes that late acquisition can be the difference between making and missing the playoffs, and even winning a championship.
The Steelers felt that in the real version of football, suffering injuries to Antonio Brown (ankle) and Jerricho Cotchery (ribs). In response to those injuries, the Steelers signed veteran WR Plaxico Burress.
And he may actually be a smart pick-up for your late-season roster.
Burress has the size the Steelers receivers do not have, and with shrinking red zone production from the team (Heath Miller in particular), he may end up being a primary target on a few red zone plays this weekend against Cleveland.
More importantly, though, the Steelers face the secondary-challenged Ravens in Week 13, followed by mediocre to poor pass defenses in San Diego, Cincinnati and Dallas.
The Steelers clearly need to shake up their red zone offense - a unit that started the year red-hot but has descended to the depths of their production in 2011. Burress may not be the wisest play this week (having been signed on Tuesday) but with Brown being - at the very least - not 100 percent, the Steelers may need Burress in a few packages in this game.
In the next two weeks, though, it wouldn't be at all surprising if Burress increased snaps and targets game-to-game.
