Junior Seau, former linebacker for the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots, was found shot dead in his San Diego home, 10News in San Diego is reporting.
According to the news channel, a neighbor told police Seau shot himself, allegedly, after police were responding to activity inside the home. TMZ is reporting Seau died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
It isn’t clear at this time what led to the incident, but domestic trouble isn’t new for the likely Hall of Fame linebacker. Seau and his wife had reported problems in 2010, when he drove his vehicle off a cliff after an arrest stemming from a domestic violence charge.
This is the most recent in an alarming trend of former professional football players committing suicide. If the allegations are true, Seau would be by far the most prominent and most recent player to have killed himself. Seau said he was retired from the game in 2010.
Seau was 43 years old.
