Steelers back-up quarterback hopeful Troy Smith has been a part of the Steelers for a few months, but he's already mixing things up with two traditional rivals.
Speaking to AP reporter Will Graves, Smith mentioned a set-back he had with tonsillitis his rookie season, before saying he would have given Ravens QB Joe Flacco a run for for the team's starting quarterback position. Smith was a fifth round draft pick of the Ravens in 2007. Baltimore drafted Flacco in the first round of 2008, and when Smith - the team's back-up behind Kyle Boller in 2007 - fell ill, Flacco took the job and never looked back.
He turned his opinions toward the Cleveland Browns, saying the franchise has made "some baffling decisions" recently.
An interesting way for Smith to make his presence known. Going against veterans Byron Leftwich and Charlie Batch (all three of them were signed this offseason) for two spots behind QB Ben Roethlisberger, Smith's athleticism may help him out. His confidence, hopefully, will help him out, because he'll no doubt be hearing about this as he's poised to become the only non-roster passer to have media swarming all over him at OTAs, which will continue through Thursday.
