Report: Mike Wallace Expected To Sign Tender After Preseason Week 3 Game at Buffalo

Update to our earlier story regarding Mike Wallace possibly being in Pittsburgh today.

Post-Gazette reporter Ed Bouchette wrote the Steelers expect WR Mike Wallace will sign his restricted free agency tender this weekend, after the Steelers play the Buffalo Bills in Preseason Week 3 Saturday.

He is citing multiple sources, and considering the way he phrased it, those sources are probably from within the team.

Doing so would give Wallace two weeks of practice before the Steelers head to Denver for the season-opener Sept. 9.

It would also likely make him available for the team's fourth and final preseason game, scheduled for Aug. 30 at Carolina. The last preseason game is the one where the starters play the least, keeping them rested for the regular season opener, and giving the guys fighting for roster spots one last look before the final cut, which is Aug. 31.

It would also give Wallace some time to continue negotiations with the team for a long-term contract, which, as is standard operating procedure for the Steelers, won't happen unless he's in training camp or has at least reported to the team.
