With the release of 15, the Steelers took one step closer toward its final roster of 53 players.
They are now at 75 on the active roster, and that must be trimmed to 53 by 9 p.m. ET Friday, Aug. 31.
The Steelers released the following players: defensive backs Myron Rolle, Andre Freeman and Walter McFadden; tight ends Jamie McCoy and Justin Peelle; linebackers Mortty Ivy and Ryan Baker; wide receivers Paul Cox, Jimmy Young and Juamorris Stewart; defensive tackles Mike Blanc and Kade Weston; offensive lineman Kyle Jolly; long snapper Matt Katula and kicker Danny Hrapmann.
Probably the biggest name is Rolle, who generated some buzz this offseason when the Steelers signed him to a future's contract. Rolle never really jumped out on film in three preseason games, and was overshadowed by S Robert Golden.
Also, K Danny Hrapmann was starting to generate something of a following after going a perfect 6-for-6 on field goals this training camp. It shows there really wasn't anything he was going to be able to do to unseat incumbent Shaun Suisham.
TE Justin Peelle was signed during training camp, but made little impact. TE Jamie McCoy has previously been with the team, as has Mortty Ivy, who blocked a punt this preseason.
