CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora's source has a bone to pick with NFL Network's Ian Rapoport's source.
I'm told adamantly that the Steelers never "fielded offers" or ever entertained trading Big Ben this offseason. Never even close ...

That seems to be the general theme among fans, at least. However, Rapoport's report was that Roethlisberger will request a trade - whether the team has entertained the thought of trading him is somewhat beside the point. It doesn't invalidate all of what Rapoport wrote earlier Sunday.
It does suggest previous offers for Roethlisberger's services were not received by the Steelers, which Rapoport did mention. However, after Roethlisberger found himself the subject of two separate sexual assault allegations in 2010, there were reports the team looked into trading him, supposedly to St. Louis, who held the first overall pick, and took quarterback Sam Bradford.
Steelers fans are likely happy that trade did not happen. It's unclear who backed out of the talks, or if they held any more weight than a passing conversation between general managers doing their due diligence.
