NFL players take note: Spearing costs $10,000, while grabbing the nether regions of an opponent costs $7,875. The sum when rung up at the register is $17,875 - the fine Steelers center Cody Wallace paid for both infractions in Pittsburgh's loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 14.
Wallace rammed into Dolphins linebacker Koa Misi as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger tried to gain one extra yard on a 4th-and-10 run. It came after the whistle, and he did receive a penalty for it.
He appeared to have been digging at or grabbing the restricted zone of Dolphins defensive tackle Randy Starks after a Roethlisberger fumble earlier in the game. Starks recovered it, and did not let go, even as Wallace...did not let go.
Wallace made his first career start against Miami, replacing Fernando Velasco, who is out for the remainder of the year with an Achilles injury. Velasco replaced Maurkice Pouncey in Week 1, who tore his ACL eight plays into the season.
Wallace will make his second career start against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16. Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are on Sunday Night Football, with a kick off scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
